Sports Medicine F.A.Q.
- I have an injury from playing sports. Can I use Active Release Techniques for better rehab?
Active Release Techniques (ART) are a unique way to treat soft tissue injuries that benefit muscles and tendons in the healing process. ART have been known to relieve pain from sports injuries and increase mobility. They are used in physical therapy and with sports medicine.
- How can Active Release Techniques help sports injuries?
ART can help with many types of injuries. They have been known to treat muscle spasms, sciatica, shoulder injuries, back pain, knee pain and more. Because the technique treats the tendons and muscles as well as the nerves, many patients see immediate pain relief and experience better sports performance.
- What is the FAKTR technique?
FAKTR (pronounced factor) is a soft tissue concept that stands for Functional and Kinetic Treatment with Rehab. FAKTR is a cutting-edge approach to treating muscle, ligament and facial injuries with the use of special medical instruments and the hands of the practitioner. The FACTR techniques can be used in addition to Active Release Techniques, depending on the injury and the treatment that they require. Only specialists can perform these techniques.
*Dr. Jason Addison is a full-body certified practitioner of these techniques with extensive experience in treating professional athletes, college and high school levels.

- I have pain in my lower back and heard about Decompression. What is Decompression used for?
At our office, we use spinal decompression as a type of traction that can help relieve back pain. spinal decompression works by gently stretching the spine and changing its position. Many people say it gives instant relief!
Decompression takes pressure off the spinal disks (the cushions between the bones in your spine), by creating negative pressure in the disc. As a result, bulging or herniated disks may retract, taking pressure off nerves and other structures in your spine. This will help promote movement of water, oxygen, and fluids into the disks so that they can heal. Decompression is commonly used as an alternative to surgery for neck and low back pain, sciatica, disc herniation, and numbness and/ or tingling.
